About Lindele Msweli
Lindele Msweli grew up in Umlazi Township, Durban, and draws on that place in everything he makes. We first saw his work on a trip to Cape Town, in a garage where he was showing paintings made with ground coffee. His art is political: it looks at South African society and above all at the lives of women, at domestic violence, abuse and oppression. He works in acrylic, charcoal and mixed media, and his subject is the daily life of ordinary people. His pictures ask us to look at what we would rather not see.
