Baobab Children Foundation
A school for crafts and art in Ghana, and the friendship our story began with.
The beginning
In 2003 Lars Lockemann, Anna Esche and Lars’s parents met Edith de Vos in Cape Coast, who had just built up the Baobab Children Foundation. The painter Godwin Adjei Sowah teaches art there. Around 2008 Monika Lockemann organised the first benefit exhibitions of his work in Germany. To Choose grew out of this friendship.
The foundation
Edith de Vos founded the Baobab Children Foundation in 2001, as an association registered in Freiburg. Since the end of 2004 it runs the Baobab School: crafts and arts and crafts for street children, school dropouts and young people with disabilities. Today it is officially an inclusive school.
The Culture Troupe has taught drumming and dance since 2004. The Baobab House, open since 2008, has a restaurant, a shop and guest rooms. Today 54 people work for Baobab.
